06/13/2023: Board of Education Recap

The Board of Education held its regular meeting this week and approved the budget for the upcoming 2023-2024 School Year. The budget still needs final approval from NMPED. The budget includes a 6% pay increase for all school staff, an increase of 7.24% in medical insurance through NMPSIA, and an increase in employer contributions of 60%/70%/80% towards medical insurance. During the meeting, the Board also made the following decisions:

  • The Board passed Resolution 2023-R13, which sets the date for the school district elections on November 7. Seats in Districts 1, 4, and 5 will be up for election, along with a Bond Election. The deadline to declare for seats 1, 4, and 5 is August 29.
  • The Board made changes to several policies, including sick leave (G-2550), leave for victims of domestic abuse or emergency responders (G-2600), staff vacations and holidays (G-3200), evaluation of staff members (G-5361), minor discipline (G-6100 and G-9300), exclusions and exemptions from school attendance (J-1950), chronic health conditions (J-1961, J-1981, and J-1982), instructional agreements (J-1983), and communicable/infectious diseases (J-5250).   • Ms. Heather Basinger and two students from Piedra Vista High School, Kadence Gardenhire, and Allyson Keeling, will be traveling to Indiana for the Best Buddies International Leadership Conference. There will be 50 students from New Mexico representing their schools at the conference. Great job, Kadance, and Allyson!

The Board of Education will have a Planning Retreat on June 28 - 29, 2023. The next Board Meeting will be on July 11, 2023.
