Student Nutrition’s Back To School Kick-Off

What an exciting way to begin the school year for the FMS School Nutrition Department! We're thrilled to introduce some new team members. A warm welcome to Ms. Paula Szczepanek, the new K-12 by Elior Resident District Manager (Top photo, center), as well as our FoodCorps Service Members: Daraiuius Reed (Esperanza), Livie Nute (Animas), Silisa Saine (Ladera), and Diane Shubert (Apache).

This year's Back To School Kick-Off event for the FMS Student Nutrition staff was held at the Connie Gotsch Theater. Our special guests were Superintendent Cody Diehl, Chief of Operations Ted Lasiewicz, and FMS McKinney Vento Liaison Paul Pavlik.

Superintendent Diehl expressed his gratitude, saying, "Our students begin and continue their school days with all of you. Your efforts are truly valued, and I'm excited for the wonderful year ahead."

We were also fortunate to have author Maureen G. Mulvaney as our guest speaker. She shared an inspiring message about the important role food workers play in supporting students.

“We serve fruits, whole grains, vegetables, protein, and milk in the exact proportions to raise test scores, lower behavior problems, and reduce childhood obesity. Repeat after me,” said M.G.M. to the group.

Her words deeply resonated with our team, reinforcing the understanding that each staff member is connected to our students as parents or family members. The impact we make directly affects our own loved ones. It was a truly impactful moment.

FMS welcomes students back tomorrow, August 10, 2023.
