For our upcoming meal options, FMS Student Nutrition took a unique approach by involving the students directly.
This week, we enlisted the help of students from four of our busiest middle and high schools to help us decide which pizza and chicken nuggets to feature in all our school cafeterias for the 2024-2025 school year. Students from Hermosa and Tibbets middle schools, as well as Farmington and Piedra Vista high schools, lined up during lunchtime to taste samples and cast their votes based solely on how the food looked and tasted.
No brands were revealed during the tasting, and students were kept in the dark about the food they were sampling. Some even went back for seconds to ensure they were making the right choice during this blind taste test.
A big congratulations to our food suppliers Alpha Foods Co. and Rich Chicks, who emerged as the winners of the blind tastings.
We're grateful to our schools for accommodating this exciting experience and to all the participating companies - Wild Mikes, Nardone's, Tyson, Hormel/Jennie-O, and Yangs - for joining us at our schools and being part of this process. A special shout-out to students Easton Elledge and Brexton Fine from Tibbetts Middle School for participating in the KOB4 interviews.
A heartfelt thank you to FMS Student Nutrition and K-12 by Elior for their hard work and dedication to making this happen.
To make these chosen options available next year, FMS Student Nutrition will be utilizing USDA Foods entitlement funds.
