Great news! We're thrilled to share that some of our amazing students excelled at last Saturday’s National History Day event in New Mexico, held at the University of New Mexico. Now, teams from Heights and Mesa View middle schools have earned the opportunity to attend the National Competition at the University of Maryland from June 9-13, 2024.
Let's give a big round of applause to our winners:
Katelyn Graciano, Emily Jensen, and McKenna Yates from Mesa View Middle School, secured second place in the Junior Group Exhibit category with their project titled “Discovery of Penicillin and the Lifesaving Impact Antibiotics Had on the World.”
Diya Linga and Paige Kimball from Heights Middle School clinched second place in the Junior Group Performance category with their project titled “Turning Points in History: Sendler and Zegota.”
Faith and Gordon Hilton from Hermosa Middle School earned third place in the Junior Group Exhibit category with their project titled “War of the Currents.”
This year, National History Day celebrates its 50th anniversary with the theme of turning points in history. Students are encouraged to explore questions about the timing, causes, effects, and significance of pivotal moments. A turning point can be anything from a significant event to a groundbreaking idea that leads to change.
We also want to give a special shoutout to our dedicated educators: Ms. Erica Davis, Ms. Andrea Fear, and Ms. Troy Lynn Bodiford, whose guidance and support have been invaluable.
In the photos, you can see the talented Hermosa team performing their project “War of the Currents” during our first-ever FMS Gifted Showcase this week. Let's continue to celebrate our students' achievements and the dedication of our educators!
