Earlier today, Mr. Bryant Cox was officially sworn in by Farmington Police Chief Steve Hebbe as our second FMS armed campus safety monitor.
Mr. Cox brings more than 20 years of experience in law enforcement, having served with the New Mexico State Police, the Carlsbad Police Department, the San Juan Sheriff’s Office, and the Farmington Police Department.
With his extensive background as a school resource officer and familiarity with our community, Mr. Cox understands the importance of his role. Starting in August, Mr. Cox will be working at Farmington High School to ensure a safer environment for everyone.
The FPD Bomb Squad members attended the ceremony to support their former colleague.
The FMS Board of Education authorized school security personnel to carry firearms on school premises during their January 9, 2024, meeting. The move paved the way for the hiring of Armed Campus Safety Monitors (ACSMs), former certified law enforcement officers tasked with providing an additional layer of protection for students and staff during emergencies.
