FMS Wins Two Golden Chile Awards

Today, FMS Student Nutrition attended the annual Food and Farms Day celebration, hosted in person for the first time at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerque. This event included the Golden Chile Awards, where our district was honored as a 2024 Double Golden Chile Award recipient.

Farmington Municipal Schools received these two awards in recognition of our commitment to providing nutritious, delicious meals to students daily and for the care and support we extend to six daycares in our community, ensuring even our youngest children have access to healthy meals.

Golden Chile Awards

The Golden Chile Awards are presented by the New Mexico Grown Coalition, an organization that champions fresh, local foods in schools and communities across the state. These awards highlight the dedication of nutrition providers who work tirelessly to support children’s health and well-being.

At the ceremony, Pam Roy, Director of Farm to Table, shared that New Mexico is making strides toward food security and increasing the amount of local produce that stays within the state. She noted that over the past five years, consumption of New Mexico-grown products has doubled from 5 percent to over 10 percent, strengthening local agriculture.

A special congratulations to Pam Roy, who was honored with the Mycelium Award for fostering connectivity in food and farming throughout New Mexico.
