October Brings Delicious School Meals & Fun Food Celebrations

FMS Families,

October is going to be an exciting month for our school meals! We’re kicking off with “SO GOOD” produce, and the featured item for October will be apples. Students across all grades will enjoy apples in different forms, and we’ll also celebrate National Apple Day on October 21 with fresh or freeze-dried apple slices.

October Brings Delicious School Meals & Fun Food Celebrations

Here are a few other fun food events to look forward to:

October 4 – World Smile Day: We’ll brighten up breakfast with fun potato smiles as a side, and for National Taco Day, students will enjoy delicious beef soft tacos for lunch.

October 31 – Halloween Fun on Nuevo Thursday: Our lunch menu will feature festive Mummy Dogs and Spooky Sidekicks, and for breakfast, we’re baking fresh donuts with a New Mexico pumpkin glaze, made from scratch!

Additionally, we’re excited to celebrate New Mexico Grown Week from September 30 to October 4. During this week, we’ll serve locally sourced produce and meat, including dried cantaloupe (from Rancho De Santa Fe), homemade pickles (from the Stark Family Farm in Aztec), fresh watermelon (from Red Doc in Belen), pinto beans (from NAPI), and ground beef (from 3JRJ Livestock in Farmington).

National School Lunch Week will take place from October 15 to 18, with the theme “School Lunch Pirates: Find Your Treasure.” We’ll have special menus, fun activities, and events to highlight the importance of healthy, delicious school lunches. Our goal is to boost student participation and connect with families, teachers, and administrators to show how school meals are both nutritious and tasty!

We can’t wait to share these wonderful meals and celebrations with your children!
