The walls were stacked to the ceiling with boxes last week at Apache Elementary School as students received a new pair of shoes to gear up for the fall season! Families from the community were invited to shop around and find the perfect kicks for their kiddos. With many different designs available, these students were able to express their personal styles and left the event with huge smiles!
Apache Elementary is in its second year of the community schools program and they have been making great progress in supporting their families with amazing resources. Thanks to our fabulous Community School Coordinator, Ms. Crystal Harrison, connections are being made with many community partners to continue facilitating these kinds of events.
We want to give a huge thank you to the San Juan County Early Childhood Coalition for their partnership with Apache Elementary School and for supplying this generous gift. The SJCECC Coordinator, Ms. Selece Gathings, along with Ms. Harrison started this initiative to provide students with the basic necessity of shoes. Ms. Harrison is looking forward to forming even more community partnerships to fill their community closet with clothing, shoes, hygiene items, and food to better support our students in every aspect of their lives.
Special thank you to the wonderful volunteers at this event including Save the Children, Fundamentals, and Apache teachers, Ms. John (5th grade), Ms. Peshlakai, and Ms. Kiefer.
