11/12/2024: Board of Education Recap

This afternoon, Mr. Nathan Pierantoni, our Executive Director of Support Services, shared the latest school designations and graduation information from the NM Public Education Department (NMPED) during the Board of Education's Work Session.

Four of our schools previously designated as needing Additional Targeted Support (Bluffview, McKinley, Heights, and Mesa View) have improved and are now classified as Traditional Schools—a designation given to schools in good standing. This rating is based on a point system that evaluates student achievement in math, reading, science, and attendance, among other factors.

Here’s what the new designations mean for FMS:

  • 13 schools are now rated as Traditional.

  • 1 school is in the More Rigorous Interventions category, which applies to schools needing extra support after 3 years in CSI (Comprehensive Support and Improvement).

  • 4 schools have achieved Spotlight status (Country Club, Mesa Verde, Northeast, and San Juan College High) the highest recognition for schools in the top 25% statewide.

Ms. Nicole Lambson, our Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction, also shared FMS’s ultimate goal: to help all our schools achieve Spotlight status.

You can find more details about these designations and our schools’ progress on the New Mexico Vistas website and the FMS Report Card.

Two New Platforms

This school year, we’re launching two new platforms to better support our students and families: Edia (see sample message above) and MyPowerHub.

Edia, our new high school platform, will help us monitor attendance closely and work together with families to resolve challenges that may keep students from attending class. Within minutes of an absence, the system will initiate a personalized conversation with our families to identify an absence.

We will also introduce MyPowerHub from PowerSchool, which will give FMS families a single, convenient view of a student’s information—grades, assignments, school news, and more.

Policy Update: Employee Leave Donations

Mr. Chris Pash, our Executive Director of Human Resources, shared proposed updates to Policy G-3134, which covers employee leave donations. These changes are under review, and the Board may vote on them during the December 10 meeting.

Preventative Maintenance Plan Success

Mr. Isaac Gamboa, our Executive Director of Operations, Athletics, and Activities, presented the results of the FMS Preventative Maintenance Plan. A comprehensive review, based on state guidelines, showed that the plan met all 44 required elements, earning an "Outstanding" performance rating.

Mark your calendars for the next Board of Education meeting on December 10, 2024.
