Farmington High’s Student Senate Recognized for Outstanding Achievements
The Board of Education proudly recognized Farmington High’s Student Senate for their incredible accomplishments! At the State Conference in Albuquerque this past February, the Student Senate earned their 10th Gold Student Council of the Year Award, securing their status as a Platinum Student Council for the last 8 years.
At the conference, they also earned:
3rd Place for Delegates’ Choice with their creative banner
2nd Place and 3rd Place for Projects of the Year
In addition to their conference successes, these students have been busy coordinating or participating in 108 projects—an outstanding demonstration of leadership and dedication to their school and community!
A quick look at their portfolio shows that their work includes recognizing and supporting other students, evaluating activities, and organizing community events.
Some of their notable projects include helping the Farmington Youth Ambassadors (FYA) connect with new students and families, promoting literacy through Read Across America, and raising awareness about recycling during Earth Day Spirit Week. They also supported the Apache Elementary Spring Fling, encouraged volunteering among younger students, and helped prepare incoming high school students through 8th Grade Tours.
Additionally, they volunteered at the Country Club Field Day, participated in the Berg Park Cleanup and 9/11 Stair Climb, and showed appreciation for first responders. The Student Senate's dedication and preparation for these events demonstrate their commitment to making a positive impact on the community.

The Farmington High Student Senate includes students who excel in various areas—athletes, club members, dual credit/AP students, community service volunteers, and those with jobs and internships—all while maintaining an impressive average GPA of 3.8. In the photo, Bella Yazzie, a junior senator, is an outstanding example of leadership. She’s on track to graduate with 2 Associate’s Degrees in Biology and Liberal Arts and plans to pursue her passion for veterinary science in San Diego, California.
