On April 9, 2022, the Farmington Municipal Schools Board of Education voted unanimously to extend an employment offer to Cody L. Diehl to serve as FMS’ new Superintendent of Schools. Mr. Diehl was selected from a group of six potential candidates and was one of four finalists who were introduced to the staff and community for consideration. As Superintendent, Mr. Diehl will lead the school district’s 11,000 students and 1,500 employees. Mr. Diehl’s official start date will be July 1, 2022.
“The Board of Education is excited that Mr. Diehl will be the new Superintendent of Farmington Municipal Schools. In the last seven years, the district has experienced great success, strengthened educational models, and set goals for the future of our school system. To continue this work, the district needs the kind of leadership that will inject drive and passion into the daily labor of putting students front and center,” said Board President Stephanie Thompson.
“It is my honor to accept the job of Superintendent of Farmington Municipal Schools. I pledge to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and community to make sure our system continues to improve, extend, and enhance opportunities for our students,” said Cody L. Diehl.
“I congratulate Mr. Diehl on his selection and am truly excited for the future of Farmington Municipal Schools under his leadership. I also want to congratulate the Board of Education for completing a strong and open search process,” said Superintendent Dr. Eugene Schmidt.
Mr. Diehl is currently serving as the Executive Director of Support Services at Farmington Municipal Schools. Mr. Diehl previously served as Principal of Bloomfield High School (Bloomfield, NM), Principal of Kirtland Central High School (Kirtland, NM), and Administrative Interventionist at River Valley High School (Mohave Valley, AZ).
The superintendent finalists participated in a variety of interviews with community members, administration, and board members. The vetting process of the finalists included advisory group feedback and video role-play interviews with the Board of Education.
Farmington Municipal Schools is incredibly grateful to all of the advisory group members who participated in this selection process by participating in interview panels and submitting feedback and questions about the finalists.
Following a career in education of more than forty years, Superintendent Dr. Eugene Schmidt announced his retirement on January 5.
