Congratulations to Country Club Elementary School on winning first and second place in the 2021-2022 Year-Long Session of the Stock Market Game, an online academic and life-skills educational program of the SIFMA Foundation. See the students’ names below.
“I'm very proud of the students and all their dedication to learning about the Stock Market, companies, and sustainable stocks. They wrote impressive essays for InvestWrite a National Essay Competition. The essays explained stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. The 4th and 5th grade were honored as grand champions because of their impressive essays and for their ranking at the top of the Virtual Reality Stock Market Game for Elementary in New Mexico. The 5th grade was in the top 11 of 145 high school teams. At one point the 5th grade were in the top 10. Their total equity was 107,807.31 and were 6.73 % above the S&P 500 growth). This is impressive especially because of the volatile Stock Market. All the students wish to help others and work on investment strategies for college,” said Tamara Taylor, Country Club Elementary Gifted Education Teacher.
Teams of one to four students begin the simulation with an imaginary investment of 100 thousand dollars to trade stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and exchange-traded funds on the NYSE and NASDAQ. Students follow current events and global news impacting the financial markets and place trades in real-time online via computer or the SMG smartphone app.
Students compete with peers in their classroom and with teams of other students in schools across New Mexico to increase their portfolio value. They can participate in socially responsible investing by selecting companies that have been determined to be in alignment with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs.
Winning Stock Market Game students will be recognized for their financial prowess and receive awards for their top-performing portfolios. Their teachers and schools will also receive recognition from the SIFMA Foundation.
