Our thanks to Grant Banash, of POMS & Associates, for his presentation on student and school safety during this afternoon’s Board of Education work session. The presentation included a thoughtful discussion on prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery, including the steps Farmington Municipal Schools takes to keep students safe, our efforts to have a counselor and social worker at every school, the focus on emotional wellness, the addition on two more School Resource Officers in January, and safety monitors at all of our schools.
The meeting also included a request to call upon the New Mexico State Legislature to implement and fully fund the 80/20 rule where all employees of New Mexico Public Schools pay 20% of their insurance premiums, regardless of salary or position. The resolution is sponsored by the New Mexico School Boards Association.
The Board of Education will convene for a Special Meeting on December 6, 2022.
