Storm the Castle! Teams design, construct and calibrate a single device capable of launching projectiles onto a target and collect data regarding device parameters and performance.

We spent last Saturday (January 14) watching rubber-powered planes fly and elastic-powered vehicles race during this year’s Science Olympiad Regional Competition. This amazing event, which also included students creating musical instruments and playing them, and designing and building bridges, took place at Farmington High School. See the full list of winners and schools below.

Science Olympiad starts in the classroom with our teachers helping to develop curiosity through hands-on experiences and exposing them to the Four Corners student community where they can be inspired by their peers to solve problems and learn in different ways.

Four area high schools and seven middle schools competed in 23 events, with activities that included codebreaking, experimental design, rocks, and minerals. All participating schools qualify one team to go to the New Mexico State Tournament on February 24-25, at New Mexico Tech.

Huge kudos to Tournament Director Dr. Kelly Stone, Score Master Lisa Felix, Enrichment Services Coordinator Michelle Thur, the Hospitality Team of Barbara Harper, Raymond & Lyn White, and all event supervisors and coaches.
