FMS families of students in grades K-5, you are invited to a Community Open House for the Social Studies materials. You will be able to review materials we are considering for adoption and provide feedback via a quick survey. This process will help the FMS Teacher Team decide the scale of the materials adoption next year. Materials will be available on tables outside of the Animas room for people to take a closer look. This event will take place on 👉 March 9, from 3:30-5:00 p.m., at Central Office (3401 E. 30th Street) on the 4th floor. See you then!

FMS families of students in middle and high school, you are invited to a couple of presentations for the Social Studies Secondary Materials. The presentations will give you an opportunity to see the resources and your feedback will help us determine what we will adopt next year. Join us on 👉 February 16, from 4:30 - 5:30 PM, on 👉 February 22, from 1:30 to 3:30, and again from 4:30 to 5:30, and on 👉 March 6, from 4:30 - 5:30 PM. The presentations from McGraw Hill (02/16), Cengage (02/22), and Savva (03/06) will take place at the FMS Board Room (3401 E. 30th Street). See you there!

Happy Belated Birthday, Elmo! Last week on Friday (February 3) we celebrated Elmo's birthday with a delicious treat of red jello provided by FMS Student Nutrition. Heights Middle School band went on tour! These students performed a demonstration of instruments and music for local elementary schools to get them excited for the possibility of enrolling in band next year! Is your 5th grader going to Heights next year? If they would like to join a musical elective, they have a chance to test out some instruments to see what they like first! . Animas Elementary School rolled out the red carpet and celebrated their students last week at their Student Appreciation Day. Last week FMS Student Nutrition was invited by FoodCorps to join in the New Mexico Food and Farms Day Awards. This event is to celebrate and further encourage local growers and their partnership in providing healthy foods to the community. Students were also given the opportunity to meet with Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and discuss the importance of student nutrition. . Hermosa Middle School's Family and Consumer Science class is learning all about sewing! These students are able to thread their own machines and bobbins and they are now ready to start practicing stitches on paper. They receive guidance from Ms. Werth on the easiest way to stitch the letters of their name by prioritizing the straight lines first! Mr. Kevin Belin, Director of the Navajo Preparatory School Diné Bizaad Institute, held a wonderful presentation on defining cultural parent engagement strategies, stories, and songs around Késhjéé' or Navajo Shoe Game this week. Approximately, 70 parents joined Mr. Belin for a fun evening of learning, stories, and songs. Thank you for coming, FMS families! Thank you, Mr. Belin! In Navajo culture, the Shoe Game, which is played at night and in winter, consists of hiding a wound yucca root ball within one of several moccasins and taking turns guessing where the ball is. January 25, 2023: Today FMS hosted the FCCLA Regional Culinary Competition at the CATE Center. Students from the Northwest New Mexico region competed in Pastry Arts Technical Decorating Skills, Culinary Food Art, and Interior Design! Ms. Patton from Hermosa Middle School starts her guitar and general music class off with a bell-ringer consisting of reading music and deciphering the frets and chords associated with it. After this, the class moves on to reading the music while playing along on their guitars and verbally reciting the chords to create a lasting connection. The San Juan College High School Griffins have completed their executive internship bootcamp! SJCHS students will be heading to their internship placements to receive vital hands-on experience.
