June 1, 2023: The FMS Equity Council submitted an important report (advisement) to the NM Public Education Department on May 31, 2023. This report outlines what the council has been working on throughout the year and suggests potential improvements based on their findings. Here are three key recommendations from the report that we'd like to share with you: (1) The council recommends implementing responsive classroom management in addition to the regular curriculum. (2) Another recommendation is to establish student equity councils at four specific schools: Esperanza Elementary, Tibbetts and Hermosa middle schools, and Farmington High School. These councils would provide a platform for more students to voice their opinions and contribute to creating a more equitable educational experience. (3) The report also suggests conducting Student and Climate Surveys. These surveys would help gather valuable feedback, allowing the district to better understand all experiences and make necessary improvements. The FMS Equity Council is a dedicated team at the district level that includes students, parent representatives, community members, and district leaders. They are actively working to recognize and support underserved student groups. Visit https://www.farmingtonschools.us/page/fms-equity-council to learn more about the council.

Let's come together and contribute to more wonderful initiatives in 2024! 👉 The Foundation’s main event is the Race to Educate. FMS, let's rally behind our teachers and show them our support! Today, we want to shine a spotlight on some amazing teachers who are raising funds for their classrooms through the Donors Choose platform. One remarkable teacher we'd like to mention is Ms. Wayne at Animas Elementary. Last year, she successfully raised $10,000 for art supplies, and she's working on achieving the same this year. We've witnessed the positive impact of her efforts, culminating in the fantastic Animas Art Show that took place last Friday (check out the photos!).
