¡Feliz Mes Nacional de la Herencia Hispana, que celebramos del 15 de septiembre al 15 de octubre!

National Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to recognize and honor the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States.

We have special events planned for the month at FMS.

Exciting News for K-6 Bilingual Students!

Our Multicultural and Fine Arts departments are teaming up to provide a memorable experience for our K-6 bilingual classrooms! On September 24, we’ll be bussing the students to watch Creede Repertory Theatre’s lively performance of “Coyote and the Counting Game” — a modern-day trickster tale, full of fractions, word problems, and good old-fashioned sibling rivalry! The show will be performed in English and Spanish, making it a fun and educational treat for everyone.

And that’s not all! Each of our bilingual (Spanish) students will receive a special coloring book called “¡Vamos!” This book is filled with exciting content about this month’s celebrations, including delicious recipes and fun facts about Latin American cultures.

We can’t wait for our students to enjoy this cultural adventure!

Special Meals during National Hispanic Heritage Month

Our Student Nutrition Department has some special meals planned to celebrate with your children, including:

Breakfast Totchos with Tortillas on September 19. Totchos are like nachos but made with tater tots instead! While “totchos” isn’t a real word, it’s fun to say, and even more fun to eat! This tasty meal will be served to all grade levels and features ingredients from New Mexico as part of our Nuevo Thursday celebration.

“Nuevo Thursdays” is a fun program designed for schools, early care centers, and senior centers to introduce fresh, healthy meals made with ingredients grown right here in New Mexico! Nuevo Thursdays is all about exploring new flavors and healthy options!

For lunch, we will also offer Walking Tacos on September 17 and National Quesadilla Day on September 25.

Stay tuned for more delicious offerings and keep an eye out for these and more stories on our social media channels.
