McCormick Elementary School was honored at the Roundhouse by the NM Public Education Department’s Language and Culture Division today. Our school was recognized for its outstanding Bilingual Multicultural Education Program (BMEP)—an award given to schools that truly excel in bilingual education and maintain high performance year after year.
It was a great experience celebrating alongside nine other exceptional schools committed to language excellence: Alvarado Elementary, Dolores Gonzales Elementary, Kit Carson Elementary, Loma Linda Elementary, Los Padillas Elementary, Riverside Elementary, Wherry Elementary, Polk Middle School, and Ruidoso Middle School. Way to go, McCormick educators and administrators!
And what a special treat it was to watch the talented Piedra Vista Indigenous Club perform alongside the Bilingual Albuquerque Mariachi, West Las Vegas Public Schools, the Tamaya Youth Dance Group, the Christine Duncan Heritage Academy Ballet Folklorico, and the Turquoise Trail Banda Mariachi.
A huge thank you to our Native American Grant Facilitator, Ms. Carmelita Lee, for accepting the BMEP award on McCormick’s behalf, as well as our Language Educator, Ms. Esther Dennison, and Native American Youth Advisor, Ms. Glenda Hardy. Your hard work and passion make a difference every day!
Last year, Apache Elementary received the same recognition for its exceptional work with the community and families.
