Farmington Municipal Schools (FMS) is thrilled to announce the return of the highly anticipated Second Annual Farmington Jr. Chef Competition. Scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Farmington High’s Auxiliary Gym. This event promises to be a culinary extravaganza showcasing the talents of students from 4th through 12th grade.
Organized by K-12 by Elior and FMS Student Nutrition Department, the Farmington Jr. Chef Competition is designed to nurture and celebrate the culinary creativity of our young minds. Teams comprised of 2-4 students will vie for top honors in categories such as Best Recipe and Taste, Best Team Spirit, Best Presentation, and Judges’ Choice, all under the theme of “A Taste of Little Italy – New Mexico Style.”
In the first Farmington Jr. Chef Competition, students Avery Aikele and Kiara Bowen won the Judges’ Choice with their “New Mexican Sopapilla Chips and Salsa.” Avery and Kiara from McKinley Elementary won $500 each.
Last year's inaugural event saw thirty-two FMS students demonstrating their culinary prowess. This year, with the theme highlighting the vibrant food culture of Italy with a New Mexico flare, attendees can expect a mouthwatering showcase of dishes that continue to pay homage to the state's diverse culinary heritage.
