Hermosa’s No One Eats Alone Day

Hermosa’s No One Eats Alone Day

At Hermosa Middle School, students took part in a heartwarming No One Eats Alone Day as part of the Beyond Differences initiative. This special event, held during today’s lunch hour, encouraged students to connect by playing “Bingo Conversation”—a fun activity where they found a new friend and asked engaging questions like: What song do you have on repeat? What’s a favorite word in your native language? How can you help end social isolation at school? What’s one thing you want to get better at?

The cafeteria filled with laughter and meaningful conversation as students stepped outside their comfort zones to get to know one another.

A Beautiful Message Through Art

All of our Matadors worked together to create a stunning “wings mural” with the theme “Bridging Hands, Taking Flight”—a visual representation of the connections that bring us together. The mural features two hands forming a heart and is personalized with messages and words highlighting the common ground we all share. Students also enjoyed games, prizes, and photos in front of their new collective work.

FMS, as we celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Day (February 17), this event is a perfect reminder of how small actions can have a big impact. Kudos to Hermosa for promoting kindness, inclusion, and a sense of belonging!

A huge thank you to our amazing staff for making this day special: Ms. Patricia Fine (School Counselor), Ms. Candice Marsh (Natural Helpers), Ms. Rebecca Carson (Social Worker), Ms. Gladys Fitzgerald (Assistant Principal), and Mr. Kyle Hawes (Principal).

Great Food & Even Greater Participation

FMS, this event coincided with the Student Nutrition Food Truck’s special meal service, offering options like delicious meatballs in marinara sauce with whole grain spaghetti or yummy carne asada tacos with mini churros for dessert. Thanks to these efforts, lunch participation increased by 60% last week!

And finally, a fun little moment—our Hermosa students couldn’t resist splashing around in the courtyard puddles after today’s early morning rain. Just pure joy!
