Celebrating Language Excellence: PV Student Colton George Earns NN Seal of Biliteracy

We are thrilled to celebrate Piedra Vista High School student, Colton George, for earning the Navajo Nation Seal of Bilingual Proficiency! This prestigious award honors students who have mastered the Diné language—a remarkable achievement.

To receive this honor, high school seniors must demonstrate fluency in speaking, reading, and writing the Diné language by taking the Navajo Nation Seal of Bilingual Proficiency Assessment. This exam is offered each spring through the Department of Diné Education.

Last year, 23 students from Farmington Municipal Schools earned the New Mexico State Seal of Bilingualism and Biliteracy, with 22 students achieving it in Spanish and one in Navajo—a testament to our district’s commitment to language learning.

As part of this incredible accomplishment, Colton will be recognized at the Navajo Nation Seal of Bilingual Proficiency Award Ceremony on April 4, 2025, in Flagstaff, AZ.

Congratulations on this well-earned success, Colton, and for carrying the Navajo language and traditions with dedication and pride, ensuring they thrive for future generations.
