The New Mexico Activities Association announced this week the outstanding students who have been awarded the 2024-2025 NMAA Foundation Scholarships.
A big congratulations to Carsyn James from Farmington High School (top photo), who earned the El Richards/Frances Walsh Spirit Scholarship presented by Varsity Spirit ($1,000), and Joannah Freeman from Piedra Vista High School, recipient of the We Go Above. So You Can Go Beyond. Scholarship presented by Bank of Albuquerque ($1,000).
Carsyn will pursue a nursing degree while also exploring her passion for dance by trying out for the teams at either the University of New Mexico or New Mexico State University. Joannah will be attending Texas Tech University, where she will enter into the accelerated program to earn both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Accounting.
Most of these incredible scholarship recipients were recognized during the Nusenda Credit Union State Basketball Championships or the NMAA State Spirit this month, while others will be honored at the Spring Championships.
This year, nearly 350 students applied, and the NMAA Foundation will distribute $79,000 across 66 scholarships. In 26 different scholarship categories, the NMAA continues to support student success, including the Together We Rise Scholarship, created in response to the challenges of COVID-19, and now a permanent part of their program.
