Established in the fall of 2016, when a unique partnership between Aztec Municipal Schools, Bloomfield Municipal Schools, Central Consolidated Schools, Farmington Municipal Schools and San Juan College created a high school to serve students from the four school districts. San Juan College High School offers students the opportunity to graduate with an associate degree from San Juan College while concurrently receiving a high school diploma from Farmington Municipal Schools.

In this third graduating class from San Juan College High School, 66 students will walk across the stage to receive their high school diploma. Of the 66 graduates, 21 percent will be continuing at San Juan College and 31 percent will be transferring to a university in state. Around 12 percent will be attending school in the fall at a university in Colorado, Arizona or Utah. Although 15 percent of the SJCHS graduates are undecided of their future plans, two will be joining the military, including an appointment at West Point Academy. Two graduates have been accepted into the University of New Mexico (UNM) Combined BA/MD Degree Program, allowing them to earn a baccalaureate degree and then continue through to UNM School of Medicine. In addition, two of this year’s graduates have completed their prepharmacy associate degrees at SJC and have been accepted into the PharmD Early Assurance at the UNM College of Pharmacy. Several class members will be joining the workforce immediately and a few are doing mission work for their church.

The associate degrees earned by the SJCHS graduates range from an A.S. in Biology, to an A.A. in PreHealth Science, to an A.A. in Liberal Arts and an A.S. in Computer Science. Furthermore, 18 percent earned a General Transfer Certificate from SJC, while two students earned a degree or certificate through the SJC Cosmetology/Barber program.

“I am extremely proud of the San Juan College High School graduates,” says SJC President Dr. Toni Hopper Pendergrass. “They have achieved an incredible accomplishment. I want to thank the superintendents from our four school districts, teachers and staff from San Juan College High School, and especially the parents, family members, donors and community members who provided support in helping these graduates attain this momentous milestone.”
